People who know me knows how ardent coffee lover i am. My day never goes by with (several) cups of Joe. As in any day i tuned into NPR as soon as i sat in my car. That’s the only station that will be playing if i am alone. While listening to their Writer’s Almanac program this afternoon i heard this wonderful poem written by Margie Piercy called “In Praise of Joe”. Here is how it goes..
In Praise of Joe
by Marge Piercy
I love you hot
I love you iced and in a pinch
I will even consume you tepid.
Dark brown as wet bark of an apple tree,
dark as the waters flowing out of a spooky swamp
rich with tannin and smelling of thick life—
but you have your own scent that even
rising as steam kicks my brain into gear.
I drink you rancid out of vending machines,
I drink you at coffee bars for $6 a hit,
I drink you dribbling down my chin from a thermos
in cars, in stadiums, on the moonwashed beach.
Mornings you go off in my mouth like an electric
siren, radiating to my fingertips and toes.
You rattle my spine and buzz in my brain.
Whether latte, cappuccino, black or Greek
you keep me cooking, you keep me on line.
Without you, I would never get out of bed
but spend my life pressing the snooze
button. I would creep through wan days
in the form of a large shiny slug.
You waken in me the gift of speech when I
am dumb as a rock buried in damp earth.
It is you who make me human every dawn.
All my books are written with your ink.

While i was during my daily cruise in a pursuit to satisfy my tech info hunger i bumped into Jott.com. Its a personal assistant program that will let you jott down quick items from different interfaces. You can do it from your phone by leaving a voice note that will be send to you as an email, via online through their website and get a text msg, etc. So my technology curious brain couldn’t stop taking the application for a spin and so i did. Being a blackberry user i digged the site a little more and found a BB app that will let me reply email by letting me speak. The reply will be recorded and will be sent as a voice note to the recipient. It has the regular functionalities of “Reply-TO” and “Reply-ALL”. The app works as mentioned on the site. Further exploration of Jott.com i found something really interesting this is what hit the spot for me..Using Jott to communicate to other web applications like “Twitter”. That was cool…i am seeing this as a start of a trend in Mobile application word. This is the intersection of mobile apps using the native voice functionality of the phone.
Those who has used any mobile/smartphone applications before would have wondered why doesnt this application take my voice commands from phone. If the wave is big and users get on this..its only a matter of time when there is a plugin for social networking sites like Facebook, MySpace or Orkut to have a voice enabled system to update your status write on your wall or send notes/messages to your friends. Anycase those are my two cents about Jott app. Feel free to leave a comment or contact me if you want to take this talk offline.
Peace!!

Google presents again another cool tool Google “Lively”. Google has launched a Windows-only, in-browser (you need to install a client first, though) 3D avatar world — Lively — that you can embed in websites and use to interact with other people. It’s not as expansive as Second Life yet but expect things to get better. Sure will get better afterall its from Google right!!!. For those who wants to live the bleeding edge here(http://www.lively.com/) is where you can download i have my copy and in middle of creating my meeting space as i am typing this announcement.
I am terrible in listening to my voicemails and always wanted a functionality where a service could just convert into text or at the least just send me an email with my voicemail as attachment. There are many people out there who wouldn’t agree with this just press and hold one and listen to your goddam voicemails..well its be invidual preference. I live and breathe on email/browser and would like everything served there. So when i saw this article from CNet this morning i did not wait a second to register for the service. YouMail, a free visual voice mail solution to organize cell phone messages like e-mail for online playback and response, announced on Thursday that customers can start viewing those same voice mail messages from their mobile phones.
Research In Motion (RIM) has come up with yet another model of its Blackberry. A clampshell smartphone called as “Kickstart” that looks very much like perl SureType keyboard, a text input and a trackball navigation. Along with this looks like it has the standard microUSB, 3.5mm headjack. Here is a sneak peack of the phone from thanks to “BoyGenius Report”.

Thanks to all our friends and family for all their support and wishes. Sruti will have her own photoblog where i will be posting her pictures and stories of her achievements. Stay tune for the site announcement..
Here is an achievement from this week that makes me feel good about myself. I have successfully passed the certification exam for project management. So what does this mean? This means that i am now a “Certified Business Professional in Project Management”. This is issued by International Business Training Association (IBTA, http://cbpcertify.com) which is a similar organization as PMI.
Do it yourself – WoW!! its so cool phrase. There are all sorts of stuff available in market which will make you “think” that you could do it. Yes i am saying this out of my own experience :). Me and my wife are not huge DIYers but now and then when we bump into a doable (according to us ;)) we will not hesitate to jump in and get dirty. My wife is my best team mate she gives great support and motivation and not to mention very skillful.
Our big success story is constructing a recreation room in our house. Right after 5 months we moved into our house we started working on finishing a part of the house that was unfinished. Got some help in putting up the dry wall but after that we both finished the rest of the house. These pictures tell the story.
Our next project is to create a ‘home made’ studio. We have been searching a lot for tips and tools to create a home studio, ofcourse we are on a shoe string budget. So the first things i was looking for were backdrops. One would think that is not hard to find, yes it was not hard to find but were in the range of $100-$300. Thank you very much!!
So finally we thought through and asked what do we need for a backdrop. As we deconstructed what a backdrop is made of we thought why can not we do it using some simple tie and dye basics. Walla!! thats it we got it. Now it is time to decide to choose fabric which was fairly easy. Muslin was the first thing that poped up because it is cheap, its heavy, can efficiently absorb dye, has character and is not glossy. Thats it next day on our way back to home after work we went to hobby store and bought 3 yards of 108″ wide white Muslin, a packet of fabric dye and a twine. Total expenditure $20.00. We plan to get our hands dirty doing this over weekend. Will post how it went
